HOUSE BILL NO. 347

HOSPITALS:  Provides relative to factors which qualify hospitals for major teaching
hospital status
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1241(A), relative to the Louisiana Medical Assistance
3 Program; to provide for recognition of hospitals with affiliation agreements with the
4 Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation; to provide for recognition of
5 certain facilities as major teaching hospitals; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 40:1241(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
8 ยง1241.  Hospital prospective reimbursement methodology
9	A.  Notwithstanding any provisions of the Louisiana Administrative Code or
10 any contrary provision of any other law or regulation, for the purpose of the hospital
11 prospective reimbursement methodology and temporary licensure of international
12 medical graduates, the Louisiana Medical Assistance Program's recognition of a
13 major teaching hospital is limited to facilities having a documented affiliation
14 agreement with a Louisiana medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on
15 Medical Education or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.

Abstract: Adds hospitals accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College
Accreditation to the facilities recognized as major teaching hospitals.
Present law provides for any facility having a documented affiliation agreement with a
Louisiana medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education to be
recognized as a major teaching hospital by the Louisiana Medical Assistance Program.
Proposed law allows any facility having a documented affiliation agreement with a
Louisiana medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education 
Commission or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation to be recognized as
a major teaching hospital by the Louisiana Medical Assistance Program.
