HOUSE BILL NO. 348

DISTRICTS/RECREATION:  Provides relative to recreation districts in St. Mary Parish
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 33:4564.8, relative to recreation districts in St. Mary Parish; to increase the
3 per diem paid to the boards of commissioners of such districts; and to provide for
4 related matters.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
6	as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
7	Louisiana.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1.  R.S. 33:4564.8 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
10 ยง4564.8.  Recreation districts in St. Mary Parish; per diem
11	Notwithstanding the provisions of R.S. 33:4564(B), the members of the
12 boards of commissioners of recreation districts in St. Mary Parish shall each receive
13 a per diem of not less than ten dollars nor more than sixty-five dollars for attending
14 meetings of the board for a maximum of twelve meetings each year.  Per diem paid
15 pursuant to this Section shall be paid out of the funds of the district.

Abstract:  Provides for an increase in the per diem paid to members of the boards of
commissioners of recreation districts in St. Mary Parish.
Present law authorizes parish governing authorities to create recreation districts.  Provides
that the purposes of such districts are to own and operate playgrounds and other facilities or
to engage in activities which would promote recreation and the general health and well-being
of youths.  Provides for their powers and duties.
Present law provides that the recreation districts are governed by a board of five
commissioners and provides for their appointments and terms of office.
Present law provides that the members of the board of commissioners shall each receive a
per diem of $10 for each meeting they attend, to be paid from district funds, not to exceed
12 meetings per year.
Proposed law provides for an increase in the per diem received by members of the boards
of commissioners of recreation districts in St. Mary Parish from $10 to not less than $10 nor
more than $65 for each meeting they attend.
Otherwise retains present law.
