Abstract:  Amends the definition of "police officer" for the crimes of battery of a police officer and
resisting a police officer with force or violence to include juvenile detention facility officers.
Present law provides for the crime of battery of a police officer.
Present law defines "police officer" to include commissioned police officers, sheriffs, deputy
sheriffs, marshals, deputy marshals, correctional officers, federal law enforcement officers,
constables, wildlife enforcement agents, state park wardens, and probation and parole officers.
Proposed law adds juvenile detention facility officers to the present law definition of "police officer".
Present law provides for the crime of resisting a police officer with force or violence.
Present law defines "police officer" to include any commissioned police officer, sheriff, deputy
sheriff, marshal, deputy marshal, correctional officer, constable, wildlife enforcement agent, state
park warden, or probation and parole officer.
Proposed law adds juvenile detention facility officer to the present law definition of "police officer".
