NOTARIES: Provides for ex officio notaries public with certain limited authority for the
Beauregard Parish School Board
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 35:418, relative to ex officio notaries public for the Beauregard Parish School
3 Board; to authorize the superintendent of the Beauregard Parish School Board to
4 designate ex officio notaries public; to provide for duties and functions of the ex
5 officio notaries public; to provide for limitations and termination of the ex officio
6 notaries public; and to provide for related matters.
7 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
8 as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
9 Louisiana.
10Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
11 Section 1. R.S. 35:418 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
12 ยง418. Ex officio notaries public for the Beauregard Parish School Board
13 A. Notwithstanding any provisions of the law relative to qualifications of
14 notaries public, the superintendent of the Beauregard Parish School Board may
15 designate and appoint no more than two employees in his office as ex officio notaries
16 public.
17 B. Each employee so appointed as ex officio notary public may exercise,
18 within his respective jurisdictional limits, the functions of a notary public only to
19 administer oaths, receive sworn statements, and execute affidavits and

1 acknowledgments, all limited to matters within the official functions of the office of
2 the Beauregard Parish School Board.
3 C. All acts performed by each ex officio notary public authorized by this
4 Section shall be performed without charge or other compensation and without the
5 necessity of giving bond.
6 D. The superintendent of the Beauregard Parish School Board may suspend
7 or terminate an appointment made in his office pursuant to this Section at any time,
8 and a separation from the employ of the school board shall automatically terminate
9 the former employee's appointment as an ex officio notary public.

appoint up to two employees within his office as ex officio notaries public.
Proposed law provides that each employee appointed as an ex officio notary public may
exercise, within his respective jurisdictional limits, the functions of a notary public only to
administer oaths, receive sworn statements, and execute affidavits and acknowledgments,
all limited to matters within the official functions of the school board.
Proposed law provides that all acts performed by each ex officio notary public shall be
performed without charge or other compensation and without the necessity of giving bond.
Proposed law provides that the superintendent of the Beauregard Parish School Board may
suspend or terminate an appointment made in his office at any time, and a separation from
the employ of the parish shall automatically terminate an appointment as ex officio notary
