RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 629 (HB 607) 2022 Regular Session Geymann Existing law provides for the crime of simple cruelty to animals and provides that whoever commits a first offense of simple cruelty to animals shall be fined not more than $1,000, or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both. New law provides that the court may order the offender to pay for any expenses incurred for the housing of the animal and for medical treatment of the animal, pursuant to existing law (C.Cr.P. Art. 883.2). Effective August 1, 2022. (Amends R.S. 14:102.1(A)(2)(a))
