When the misappropriation or taking amounts to less than a value of one 9 thousand dollars, the offender shall be imprisoned for not more than six months, or 10 fined not more than one thousand dollars, or both. Present law provides that unauthorized use of a motor vehicle is the intentional taking or use of a motor vehicle which belongs to another without the intent to permanently deprive the other of the motor vehicle permanently. Present law provides that an offender shall be fined not more than $5,000, imprisoned with or without hard labor for not more than two years, or both.
