HB 627 Reengrossed 2022 Regular Session	Bryant
Abstract: Provides additional penalties for the crime of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Present law provides that unauthorized use of a motor vehicle is the intentional taking or use of a
motor vehicle which belongs to another without the intent to permanently deprive the other of the
motor vehicle permanently.
Present law provides that an offender shall be fined not more than $5,000,  imprisoned with or
without hard labor for not more than two years, or both.
Proposed law retains present law and adds that when the misappropriation or taking amounts to less
than a value of $1,000, the offender shall be imprisoned for not more than six months, or fined not
more than $1,000, or both.
