Abstract:  Provides an exception to the illegal carrying of weapons for city prosecutors, designated
assistant city prosecutors, a U.S. congressman from La. and his designee, and a U.S. senator
from La. and his designee.
Present law provides that present law shall not prohibit certain active persons from possessing and
concealing a handgun on their person when such persons are qualified annually in the use of firearms
by the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Proposed law retains present law and adds city prosecutors, designated assistant city prosecutors, a
U.S. congressman from La. and his designee, and a U.S. senator from La. and his designee to the list
of certain active persons who are not prohibited from possessing and concealing a handgun when
the person is qualified annually by the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training.

Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Administration of Criminal
Justice to the original bill:
1. Amend proposed law to change assistant city prosecutors to designated assistant city
prosecutors.
2. Add a U.S. congressman from La. and his designee and a U.S. senator from La. and his
designee to the present law list of persons who are not prohibited from possessing and
concealing a handgun.
