HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 93
BY REPRESENTATIVE EMERSON
HEALTH/WOMEN'S:  Commends and honors the pregnancy care centers of Louisiana
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend and honor the pregnancy care centers of Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers have a considerable and growing impact on the
4women, men, children, and communities they serve; and
5 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers serve women in Louisiana and across the United
6States with integrity and passion; there are more than two thousand five hundred pregnancy
7care centers across the United States that provide comprehensive care to women and men
8facing unplanned pregnancies by providing resources that meet their physical, psychological,
9emotional, and spiritual needs; and
10 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers offer women free, confidential, and
11compassionate services including pregnancy tests, peer counseling, 24-hour telephone
12hotlines, childbirth and parenting classes, community health care referrals, and other support
13services; and
14 WHEREAS, many medical pregnancy care centers offer ultrasounds and other
15medical services and provide information on adoption and adoption referrals to pregnant
16women; and
17 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers encourage women to make positive life choices
18by equipping them with complete and accurate information regarding their pregnancy
19options and the development of their unborn children; and
20 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers provide women with compassionate and
21confidential peer counseling in a nonjudgmental manner regardless of their pregnancy

1outcomes; they also provide important support and resources for women who choose
2childbirth over abortion; and
3 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers ensure that women receive prenatal information
4and services that lead to the birth of healthy infants, and many centers provide grief
5assistance for women and men who regret choices in the past; and
6 WHEREAS, many pregnancy care centers also work to prevent unplanned
7pregnancies by teaching effective abstinence education in public school; and
8 WHEREAS, both federal and state governments have increasingly recognized the
9value of the services offered by pregnancy care centers and have designated public funds for
10such organizations; and
11 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers operate primarily through reliance on the
12voluntary donations and time of individuals who are committed to caring for the needs of
13women and promoting and protecting life; and the centers operating in Louisiana are most
14deserving of the highest recognition for their efforts.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
16commend and honor the pregnancy care centers of Louisiana and does hereby strongly
17support the positive contributions pregnancy care centers make to the lives of women, men,
18and babies.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
20commend the tens of thousands of volunteers and paid staff at pregnancy care centers in
21Louisiana and across the United States for their compassionate work.
22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana strongly encourages
23Congress and other federal and state government agencies to grant assistance to pregnancy
24care centers for medical equipment and abstinence education in a manner that does not
25compromise the mission or religious integrity of these organizations.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana disapproves of the
27actions of any national, state, or local groups attempting to prevent pregnancy care centers
28from effectively serving women and men facing unplanned pregnancies.
29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to each
30pregnancy care center in Louisiana, the governor, the president of the United States, and to

1the president of the Senate and speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States
2Congress.
