HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 93

HEALTH/WOMEN'S:  Commends and honors the pregnancy care centers of Louisiana
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend and honor the pregnancy care centers of Louisiana; to encourage Congress and
3 federal and state government agencies to grant assistance to pregnancy care centers
4 for medical equipment and abstinence education in a manner that does not
5 compromise the centers' mission or religious integrity; and to express the sense of
6 the legislature regarding actions of any national, state, or local groups attempting to
7 prevent pregnancy care centers from effectively serving women and men facing
8 unplanned pregnancies.
9 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers have a considerable and growing impact on the
10women, men, children, and communities they serve; and
11 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers serve women in Louisiana and across the United
12States with integrity and passion; there are more than two thousand five hundred pregnancy
13care centers across the United States that provide comprehensive care to women and men
14facing unplanned pregnancies by providing resources that meet their physical, psychological,
15emotional, and spiritual needs; and
16 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers offer women free, confidential, and
17compassionate services including pregnancy tests, peer counseling, twenty-four hour per day
18telephone hotlines, childbirth and parenting classes, community health care referrals, and
19other support services; and

1 WHEREAS, many medical pregnancy care centers offer ultrasounds and other
2medical services and provide information on adoption and adoption referrals to pregnant
3women; and
4 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers encourage women to make positive life choices
5by equipping them with complete and accurate information regarding their pregnancy
6options and the development of their unborn children; and
7 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers provide women with compassionate and
8confidential peer counseling in a nonjudgmental manner regardless of their pregnancy
9outcomes; they also provide important support and resources for women who choose
10childbirth over abortion; and
11 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers ensure that women receive prenatal information
12and services that lead to the birth of healthy infants, and many centers provide grief
13assistance for women and men who regret past choices; and
14 WHEREAS, many pregnancy care centers also work to prevent unplanned
15pregnancies by teaching effective abstinence education in public schools; and
16 WHEREAS, the federal government and state governments have increasingly
17recognized the value of the services offered by pregnancy care centers and have designated
18public funds for such organizations; and
19 WHEREAS, pregnancy care centers operate primarily through reliance on the
20voluntary donations and time of individuals who are committed to caring for the needs of
21women and promoting and protecting life, and the centers operating in Louisiana are most
22deserving of the highest recognition for their efforts.
23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
24commend and honor the pregnancy care centers of Louisiana and does hereby strongly
25support the positive contributions pregnancy care centers make to the lives of women, men,
26and babies.
27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
28commend the tens of thousands of volunteers and paid staff at pregnancy care centers in
29Louisiana and across the United States for their compassionate work.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana strongly encourages
2Congress and federal and state government agencies to grant assistance to pregnancy care
3centers for medical equipment and abstinence education in a manner that does not
4compromise the mission or religious integrity of these organizations.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana disapproves of the
6actions of any national, state, or local groups attempting to prevent pregnancy care centers
7from effectively serving women and men facing unplanned pregnancies.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
9governor, the president of the United States, the presiding officers of the Senate and the
10House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America, and to each
11member of the Louisiana congressional delegation.
