SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 4, 2022, as Breaux Bridge Crawfish
Festival Day at the state capitol and commends the organizers, volunteers, and royal
court of the 2022 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize Wednesday, May 4, 2022, Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Day at the state
3 capitol and to commend the organizers, volunteers, and royal court of the 2022
4 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.
5 WHEREAS, the world famous Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival will be held May 6-
68, 2022; and
7 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival began in 1960 as a spin-off of the
8Breaux Bridge Centennial Celebration; and
9 WHEREAS, Breaux Bridge was a natural choice for such a festival because the
10Legislature of Louisiana named Breaux Bridge as the crawfish capital of the world in 1959;
11and
12 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is now known around the country
13and even the world; and
14 WHEREAS, every May, thousands of hungry people flock to Breaux Bridge to be
15part of the festivities; and
16 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has also become one of the largest
17gatherings of world famous Cajun musicians; and
18 WHEREAS, all weekend long, over a three-day period, over thirty musicians will
19play authentic Cajun, Zydeco, and Swamp pop music; and

1 WHEREAS, in addition, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival will feature Cajun
2dance contests and Cajun music workshops, as well as crawfish races, a parade, a crawfish
3eating contest, and a crawfish étoufee cook-off; and
4 WHEREAS, the festival will also feature a Breaux Bridge heritage tent, a carnival
5midway, and arts, crafts and speciality items; and
6 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is a past recipient of the Louisiana
7Association of Fairs and Festivals Festival of the Year Division II and has received
8numerous awards in marketing; and
9 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has been named a top twenty event
10by the Southeast Tourism Society and stations such as CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, the Food
11Channel, PBS, and numerous individual filmmakers have made documentaries on the
12festival; and
13 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has been featured in publications
14such as, Southern Living, National Geographic, The New York Times, and Better Homes and
15Gardens; and
16 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival was named a top ten food festival
17by USA Today; and
18 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Legislature of Louisiana to designate
19Wednesday, May 4, 2022, as Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Day at the state capitol.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
21Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 4, 2022, as Breaux Bridge
22Crawfish Festival Day at the state capitol and commends the organizers, volunteers, and
23royal court of the 2022 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival for their pivotal role in bringing this
24wonderful festival to the citizens of the state of Louisiana.
