HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 109

A RESOLUTION
To recognize Wednesday, May 4, 2022, as Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Day at the state
capitol and to commend the organizers, volunteers, and royal court of the 2022
Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.
WHEREAS, the world famous Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival will be held May 6-
8, 2022; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival began in 1960 as a spin-off of the
Breaux Bridge Centennial Celebration; and
WHEREAS, Breaux Bridge was a natural choice for such a festival because the
Legislature of Louisiana named Breaux Bridge as the crawfish capital of the world in 1959;
and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is now known around the country
and even the world; and
WHEREAS, every May, thousands of hungry people flock to Breaux Bridge to be
part of the festivities; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has also become one of the largest
gatherings of world famous Cajun musicians; and
WHEREAS, all weekend long, over a three-day period, over thirty musicians will
play authentic Cajun, Zydeco, and Swamp pop music; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival will feature Cajun
dance contests and Cajun music workshops, as well as crawfish races, a parade, a crawfish
eating contest, and a crawfish étoufee cook-off; and
WHEREAS, the festival will also feature a Breaux Bridge heritage tent, a carnival
midway, and arts, crafts and speciality items; and

WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is a past recipient of the Louisiana
Association of Fairs and Festivals Festival of the Year Division II and has received
numerous awards in marketing; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has been named a top twenty event
by the Southeast Tourism Society and stations such as CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, the Food
Channel, PBS, and numerous individual filmmakers have made documentaries on the
festival; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has been featured in publications
such as, Southern Living, National Geographic, The New York Times, and Better Homes and
Gardens; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival was named a top ten food festival
by USA Today; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Legislature of Louisiana to designate
Wednesday, May 4, 2022, as Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Day at the state capitol.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 4, 2022, as Breaux Bridge
Crawfish Festival Day at the state capitol and commends the organizers, volunteers, and
royal court of the 2022 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival for their pivotal role in bringing this
wonderful festival to the citizens of the state of Louisiana.
