HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 280
BY REPRESENTATIVES GLOVER, BAGLEY, JEFFERSON, JENKINS, PHELPS,
PRESSLY, AND SEABAUGH
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his musical legacy on the
occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary tour of the release of "Trouble Is ..."
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his musical legacy on the occasion of the twenty-
3 fifth anniversary tour of the release of "Trouble Is ...".
4 WHEREAS, Kenny Wayne Shepherd was born in Shreveport and graduated from
5Caddo Magnet High School; he is a completely self-taught guitarist, singer, and songwriter;
6though he does not read music; he has sold millions of albums world wide; and
7 WHEREAS, the blues prodigy signed with Giant records at the age of sixteen; his
8first release, Ledbetter Heights, reached number one on the U.S. Blues charts and the record
9was certified platinum; and
10 WHEREAS, two years later, he topped the U.S. Blues charts yet again with his
11sophomore release, Trouble is…, and the album was certified platinum, selling over
121,000,000 copies; this album contained four top ten hits:  Slow Ride; Somehow, Somewhere,
13Someway; Everything is Broken; and Blue on Black; and
14 WHEREAS, Blue on Black spent one hundred four weeks on the Billboard charts and
15was a number one rock hit; Kenny Wayne Shepherd won Rock Song of the Year from
16Billboard Music Awards and received his first Grammy nomination for the song; and
17 WHEREAS, since then, he has been nominated for four more Grammy Awards; he
18has won two Orville Gibson Awards, the Blues Foundation's Keeping the Blues Alive
19Award, and two Blues Music Awards; he reached number one with nine of his blues albums
20and charted thirteen mainstream rock hit singles; and

1 WHEREAS, in 2022, blues fans in select markets were able to see the Kenny Wayne
2Shepherd Band perform Trouble is... Twenty-fifth Anniversary Tour, including the smash hit
3Blue on Black; and
4 WHEREAS, the tour began on February 12, 2022, at the Strand Theatre in
5Shreveport where the band had celebrated their inaugural release of the album in 1997; this
6show was streamed on the internet; and
7 WHEREAS, the twenty-fifth anniversary tour will benefit Northwest Louisiana
8Family Justice Center and Providence House; Northwest Louisiana Family Justice Center
9is a service center for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault; Providence House
10is a homeless shelter for families with children; and
11 WHEREAS, Kenny Wayne Shepherd is an astonishing musician whose
12entertainment catalog alone is noteworthy, but he is most deserving of recognition for his
13efforts in supporting two invaluable community service centers that give help and hope to
14those in need in the northwest corner of the great state of Louisiana.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
16Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Kenny Wayne Shepherd for his incredible
17talent as a Louisiana musician and artist; does hereby commend him for his musical legacy
18as well as his charitable outreach; does hereby congratulate him on his twenty-fifth
19anniversary tour of his album Trouble is…; and does hereby express great pride in the
20accomplishments of this son of the city of Shreveport and the state of Louisiana.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
22Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
