HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4

COMMENDATIONS: Commends Geaux 4 Kids, Inc., and its work with children in foster
care
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Geaux 4 Kids, Inc., and its work with children in foster care.
3 WHEREAS, Geaux 4 Kids was first formed by K.C. Kilpatrick as an independent,
4grassroots effort; she was motivated to create Geaux 4 Kids after she became a foster parent
5in 2013; this experience made her aware of the stress brought about by trying to adequately
6prepare to house a foster child; and
7 WHEREAS, Geaux 4 Kids, Inc., was formalized in 2015 and was registered as a
8501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; the organization is an advocate for children in foster care
9and provides support for their well-being through various projects, programs, and
10collaborations; the organization's operations were funded solely by volunteers and donations
11for its first five years; and
12 WHEREAS, the mission of Geaux 4 Kids, Inc., is "to ease the emergency transition
13of displaced children into protective custody of foster care;" its "Project Geaux Bags" helps
14foster children during the first twenty-four hours after they are removed from their homes;
15the bag contains essentials such as pajamas, underwear, toiletries, age-appropriate comfort
16items, a school backpack, a pillow, a blanket, water, snacks, and a note of encouragement;
17the bags are provided to regional offices of the Louisiana Department of Children and
18Family Services, and social workers give them to children as they are relocated to a foster
19home; and

1 WHEREAS, Geaux 4 Kids, Inc., is a truly inspiring organization that is providing
2an extremely necessary yet often overlooked service to children who are uprooted. The
3organization and its founder, K.C. Kilpatrick, are most deserving of the highest recognition.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Geaux 4 Kids, Inc., and its work with
6children in foster care; does hereby recognize its founder, K.C. Kilpatrick, for her inspiring
7dedication to the improvement of the transition experience for foster children; and does
8hereby extend sincere wishes that Geaux 4 Kids, Inc., continues to receive the support it
9needs to further its mission to aid foster children and families.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
11executive director of Geaux 4 Kids, Inc.
