HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 5
BY REPRESENTATIVE ECHOLS
A RESOLUTION
To commend Andrew Whitworth on being named the National Football League 2021 Walter
Payton Man on the Year.
WHEREAS, Andrew Whitworth, a Monroe native and LSU alumnus, has gained
national recognition for his sixteen-year NFL career; he has received numerous individual
and team awards for his performance on the field, including four Pro-Bowl invitations, two
first-team All-Pro awards, and most recently, the Lombardi Trophy; and
WHEREAS, throughout his incredible NFL-career, Mr. Whitworth has also
committed himself to giving back to local communities; for him, contributing his time and
money and using his massive platform to effect positive change in the world is a direct
reflection of his investment in the things he is most passionate about; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Whitworth launched the Big Whit Homes for L.A. Families at the
beginning of the 2020-2021 NFL season and pledged to donate $20,000 after each Rams
home game; he also made donations to repair homes in his native state of Louisiana and
moved Angelenos facing housing insecurity into more-affordable homes; he also works with
non-profits in Los Angeles to aid people in paying rent, buying groceries, and putting down-
payments on and furnishing homes; and
WHEREAS, after the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ida, Mr. Whitworth joined
with Rebuilding Together to assist with essential home repairs to damaged homes; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the massive star's even more-massive community
impact, Mr. Whitworth was awarded the National Football League's most prestigious tribute,
the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award; he even used his acceptance speech as an
opportunity to call for further community investment from his fellow NFL players and all
people; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Whitworth is undeniably an elite-level football player, but his
contributions to local communities far outweigh the impact of any on-field performance; he
is truly a beautiful human being, and the state of Louisiana is truly blessed and proud to call
him one of its sons.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Andrew Whitworth on being named the
National Football League 2021 Walter Payton Man on the Year; does hereby recognize his
unmistakable dedication to local causes; does hereby thank him for his undying commitment
to the state of Louisiana and to the underprivileged residents of Los Angeles; and does
hereby extend sincere wishes that he continue his charitable work and enjoy good health as
he makes Louisiana proud in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Andrew Whitworth.
