2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 159 BY SENATOR WARD 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 13:5554(MM), relative to the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office group insurance; 3 to provide for payments of life and health insurance premium costs for retirees; to 4 provide for eligibility requirements; and to provide for related matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 13:5554(MM) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง5554. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation 8 * * * 9 MM.(1) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, 10 one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, and 11 medical expense insurance and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance 12 contracted for under the provisions of this Section shall be paid in full from the 13 sheriff's general fund for any sheriff and full-time deputy sheriff who has 14 retired from the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and who is eligible to receive 15 benefits from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund, has attained the age of 16 fifty-five years with twenty or more years of full-time creditable service with the 17 Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office, and is in good standing with the Iberville 18 Parish Sheriff's Office at the time of retirement. 19 (2)(a) The provisions of Paragraph (1) of this Subsection shall apply to 20 any sheriff, deputy sheriff, and any other person hired by the Iberville Parish 21 Sheriff's Office on or after July 1, 2022. 22 (b) The provisions of Paragraph (G)(1) of this Section shall apply to 23 sheriffs and deputy sheriffs hired by the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office prior 24 to July 1, 2022. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2022; if vetoed by the governor 2 and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on the day 3 following such approval by the legislature or July 1, 2022, whichever is later.
