(8/1/22) 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 18:423(E), 426.1(A)(2), and 1309(J), relative to compensation 3 for certain election workers; to provide for increased rates of compensation; and to 4 provide for related matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 18:423(E), 426.1(A)(2), and 1309(J) are hereby amended and 7 reenacted to read as follows: 8 §423. Parish boards of election supervisors 9 * * * 10 E. Compensation. Each member of the parish board of election supervisors 11 shall receive fifty one hundred fifty dollars for each day, not to exceed six days, 12 actually spent in the performance of his duties in preparing for and supervising each 13 election held in the parish, except that each member of the board may be 14 compensated for not more than seven days for a presidential or regularly scheduled 15 congressional general election. Each commissioner who serves at the polling place on election day shall 5 be paid according to the following: 6 * * * 7 (2) A commissioner-in-charge who serves at more than one precinct shall 8 receive three hundred fifty dollars. 9 * * * 10 §1309. Early voting; verification 11 * * * 12 J. Upon approval of the secretary of state, a registrar of voters may utilize 13 commissioners selected and trained by the registrar of voters to assist the registrar 14 during the early voting period in the conduct of early voting by his office. A registrar 15 of voters shall, in seeking the approval of the secretary of state, indicate to the 16 secretary the number of commissioners that is required for such assistance. A 17 commissioner who assists the registrar in the conduct of early voting shall take an 18 oath of office as a deputy registrar for the early voting period and shall complete an 19 affidavit prepared by the secretary of state that contains the name, address, and last 20 four digits of the social security number of the early voting commissioner and an 21 acknowledgment that the law prohibits the disclosure of confidential voter 22 information listed in the precinct register or early voting list kept by the registrar. 23 The affidavit shall be retained in the office of the registrar of voters. A commissioner 24 who assists the registrar in the conduct of early voting shall be paid in accordance 25 with R.S. 18:426.1(A)(3) and (B), if applicable, one hundred fifty dollars for each 26 day of such assistance. Proposed law retains present law and increases the amount of compensation received to $150 per day. Present law provides for each election commissioner-in-charge of more than one precinct at the polling place on election day to receive $300. Proposed law provides for each election commissioner-in-charge of more than one precinct at the polling place on election day to receive $350. Present law provides for election commissioners who assist registrars of voters with the conduct of early voting to be paid $100 in accordance with the provisions of present law.
