SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 16
BY SENATORS MILLIGAN, PEACOCK AND TARVER AND REPRESENTATIVES
PRESSLY AND SEABAUGH 
CONDOLENCES.  Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of former
Shreveport City Councilman James Flurry.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of
3 Councilman James Flurry, to acknowledge his lifelong commitment to his family and
4 community, and to note his many contributions made on behalf of the city of
5 Shreveport and the state of Louisiana.
6 WHEREAS, it is with deep remorse that the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of
7 the death of Councilman James Flurry of Shreveport, who passed away on Thursday, March
8 3, 2022, at the age of seventy-one; and
9 WHEREAS, James Flurry was born on September 4, 1950, in Jena, Louisiana, to his
10 parents, Doyle and Lucille Flurry; and 
11 WHEREAS, he was a dedicated public servant for nearly twenty years, having served
12 for seven years as a member of the Shreveport City Council and having served twelve years
13 as a justice of the peace; and
14 WHEREAS, a great joy in Councilman Flurry's life was meeting people and making
15 friendships that came about solely because of his involvement in public service; and
16 WHEREAS, he was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in
17 Shreveport, Louisiana, where he served as a teacher for the Joy Sunday School class; and
18 WHEREAS, Councilman Flurry delighted in all things involving his family, and he

1 was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; and
2 WHEREAS, beautiful memories of his life will be shared long into the future by his
3 wife of fifty-two years, Patricia Gross Flurry; his daughter, Dr. Angela Sherman and her
4 husband Ray; his son, James Flurry Jr. and his wife Brandy; three grandchildren, McKinley
5 Sherman, Jack Sherman, and Claire Flurry; his brother, Bob Flurry and his wife Judy; his
6 brother, Charlie Flurry and his wife Bonnie; and a very special brother-in-law, Ricky Gross
7 and his wife Shelia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and
8 WHEREAS, Councilman Flurry was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and
9 Lucille Flurry and his brothers, Harold Flurry and Billy Flurry; and
10 WHEREAS, Councilman Flurry's friends numbered in the thousands and he will be
11 greatly missed by all who knew him.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
13 express its sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of Councilman James Flurry
14 and does hereby acknowledge his lifelong commitment to his family and community, and
15 notes his many contributions made on behalf of the state of Louisiana.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
17 wife, Patricia Gross Flurry.
