SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 34

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Mikaylah Williams on being selected as the 2021-2022
Gatorade Louisiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Mikaylah Williams, a junior at Parkway High School, on being selected the
3 2021-2022 Gatorade Louisiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year award.
4 WHEREAS, the Gatorade Louisiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year award
5 recognizes outstanding athletic excellence as well as high standards of academic
6 achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court; and
7 WHEREAS, Mikaylah Williams, excels in athletics and academics and has earned
8 a 4.0 grade point average in addition to her superb athletic performance; and 
9 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams is a junior guard that led the Parkway High Panthers to
10 a 33-2 win-loss record and a berth in the Class 5A state championship game at the time of
11 her selection; and
12 WHEREAS, Mikaylah Williams averaged 22.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and
13 2.2 steals per game during thirty-five games; and
14 WHEREAS, at the age of sixteen, Mikaylah Williams was named the Most Valuable
15 Player of last year's 2021 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup in Hungary where she led the United
16 States to the gold medal and scored fifty-six points overall; and
17 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams is a finalist for the Naismith Award and is ranked as the
18 nation's number one recruit in the Class of 2023 by HoopGurlz and ProspectsNation.com and

1 she entered the state final with more than sixteen hundred points in her prep basketball
2 career; and
3 WHEREAS, Mikaylah Williams has served her community as a member of the
4 National Beta Club, volunteered locally at a women and children's shelter on behalf of
5 Operation Christmas Child, participated in the "Clash of the Cans" food drive, made toiletry
6 bags for the homeless, contributed to local food banks, participated in the teen youth group
7 at her church, and donated her time and resources by creating Christmas cards for veterans'
8 homes, firefighters, and police officers; and
9 WHEREAS, she is known as a great player with a tremendous work ethic and is one
10 of the strongest guards that has played high school girls basketball; and
11 WHEREAS, since the program's inception in 1985, the Gatorade Players of the Year
12 award recipients have won hundreds of professional and college championships and many
13 have also turned into pillars in their communities by becoming coaches, business owners,
14 and educators; and
15 WHEREAS, Mikaylah Williams continues to develop her talents and abilities after
16 winning the coveted 2021-2022 Gatorade Louisiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year
17 award and is destined to become an adult pillar of her community.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
19 commend Mikaylah Williams on winning the 2021-2022 Gatorade Louisiana Girls
20 Basketball Player of the Year award.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
22 Miss Mikaylah Williams of Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana.
