2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 56 BY SENATOR PEACOCK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Eden Elizabeth Trainor on being selected as a finalist in the Department of Education's 2022 Louisiana Students of the Year Awards Program. WHEREAS, the Department of Education's Students of the Year Awards Program annually selects twenty-one finalists, one elementary, middle school, and high school student from each of the state's seven regions; and WHEREAS, each traditional public, charter, and nonpublic school across the state submits one candidate from its student body; selected students compete at the school system level, with a small number advancing to regional competition; and WHEREAS, students are selected based on an array of criteria, including academic achievement, leadership skills, character, and school and community service; student portfolios, writing samples, and interviews also allow the regional selection committee to assess each candidate's critical thinking and communication skills prior to selection as a finalist; and WHEREAS, Eden Elizabeth Trainor is a fifth-grader at Eden Gardens Magnet School (EGM) in Caddo Parish who has earned the honor of being named the EGM Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, a straight-A student in the Gifted and Talented Program, Eden serves as a student leader in the EGM Leadership Team, Safety Patrol, Lighthouse Review, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), and is a Fifth Grade Buddy mentoring younger students; her academic distinctions include the Principal's List Award for straight As, 1st Place in the EGM Social Studies Fair, and making history as the first student to live- anchor the K-EGM morning show; and WHEREAS, she enjoys a variety of athletics and is active on the EGM Cheer Squad, Running Club, and East Ridge Swim Team; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 56 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the art of dance is Eden's passion, and she is a company dancer for Power and Grace School of Performing Arts; she competes against teams from around the country and has performed in numerous community productions, including The Great Russian Nutcracker, Grinched, and A Tale As Old As Time; and WHEREAS, Eden loves to serve others in her community through ministry; she works with Angel Caps Ministry, knitting caps for newborns and cancer patients in local hospitals, with Blessings of the Backpacks Ministry, providing school supplies to children starting school, and with Totes of Hope Ministry, providing comfort items to women in shelters; and she is also active in children's ministry at University Church of Christ; and WHEREAS, her hobbies include many forms of art: painting, crafts, creative writing, mystery novels, music, dance, theater, and sculpting; her artwork has been featured in Caddo Parish's ArtBreak, and her writings have been published in The Seedlings; and WHEREAS, Eden aspires to continue her studies and employ her talents to become an architect and interior designer in the future. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Eden Elizabeth Trainor on being selected as Eden Gardens Magnet School's Student of the Year and as a finalist in the Department of Education's 2022 Louisiana Students of the Year Awards Program.
