SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 60

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Loyola College Prep Girls soccer team on winning
the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2022 Division III State Championship.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend the Loyola College Prep Girls soccer team on winning the Louisiana High
3 School Athletic Association 2022 Division III State Championship.
4 WHEREAS, this year, the Loyola College Prep Girls soccer team had another stellar
5 season that ended in spectacular fashion in Southeastern Louisiana's Strawberry Stadium in
6 Hammond, Louisiana, when they achieved a four to one victory over Archbishop Hannan
7 High School in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III championship
8 game; and
9 WHEREAS, the Loyola College Prep Girls Flyers have been in either the Division
10 III or Division IV title game five of the last six years; and
11 WHEREAS, during the 2022 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division
12 III state soccer game, the Flyer girls dropped behind Archbishop Hannan High School during
13 the first part of the game until Flyer Mary Helen Burford tied the game early in the second
14 half and junior Madalyn VanDevender topped the scoring for the Flyer's win; and
15 WHEREAS, superlative athletic ability was exhibited by seniors Kennedy Jarrett and
16 Erin Campbell and sophomore Mary Helen Burford in the championship game; and
17 WHEREAS, the championship win put a cap on the career of ten Loyola seniors,
18 including Louisiana High School Athletic All-Stars Kennedy Jarrett and Erin Campbell, with

1 Ms. Jarrett ending her high school soccer career with one hundred two goals; and
2 WHEREAS, the seniors on the team managed to qualify for the state championship
3 games in all four of their years on the Loyola College Prep Girls High School varsity soccer
4 team, winning two championship trophies in the four championship games; and
5 WHEREAS, Mary Helen Burfurd was named as the Outstanding Player in the 2022
6 state championship game; and
7 WHEREAS, Loyola College Prep Girls High School soccer team won this year's
8 championship title as a result of the collective efforts of the entire team, exhibiting the fact
9 that these young women are most deserving of the highest recognition for their inspiring
10 display of dedication and perseverance in athletics.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
12 commend and congratulate the Loyola College Prep Girls soccer team on winning the
13 Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2022 Division III State Championship and does
14 hereby extend sincerest wishes that all of the members of the team maintain the level of
15 passion for all things they hope to achieve so that they might experience the joy of success
16 many more times in the future.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
18 John LeBlanc, principal of the Loyola College Prep Girls High School.
