Commends Rosemary Slattery Davis upon the celebration of her 100 th birthday. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Mrs. Rosemary Slattery Davis, widow of former State Senator Jackson 3 Beauregard Davis, on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday on May 21, 2022. 4 WHEREAS, it is a distinguished privilege for the Legislature of Louisiana to 5 congratulate Rosemary Slattery Davis on her extraordinary life; and 6 WHEREAS, Rosemary Slattery was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and is a St. 7 Vincent's Academy graduate as well as a Louisiana State University graduate in the College 8 of Commerce; and 9 WHEREAS, she and her future husband met as students attending LSU in the late 10 1930s; Jackson was an LSU Law Center senior and its student body president, and Rosemary 11 was a freshman pursuing a degree in commerce; and on April 19, 1940, they went to a dance 12 on their first date; and 13 WHEREAS, Jackson Davis was stationed at Pearl Harbor during World War II and 14 as absence made the heart grow fonder, Jackson thought of Rosemary every day, sent her 15 orchids on special occasions, and enlisted his father, J. O. Davis, to take her to dinner and 16 always relay his loving sentiments; and 17 WHEREAS, after a two-year separation, Jackson managed to get Rosemary a civilian 18 job attached to the Fourteenth Naval District Headquarters in Honolulu and they married on Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 71 SLS 22RS-3643 ORIGINAL 1 January 15, 1944, at St. Augustine By-the-Sea Catholic Church on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii; 2 they lived in Hawaii until 1946, when they returned home to Shreveport; and 3 WHEREAS, true to her Irish heritage, Rosemary loves to wear the color green, 4 attends Mass regularly, serves as a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre 5 of Jerusalem, Southeastern Lieutenancy of the United States, and is a staunch supporter of 6 the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans; and 7 WHEREAS, Rosemary has contributed to and been a member of many civic 8 organizations throughout the years, including the Junior League, the Cotillion Club, the 9 Shreveport Symphony, and the Salvation Army, and has been a Scout leader, room mother, 10 and every conceivable volunteer position when her four children were growing up; and 11 WHEREAS, Rosemary is the oldest member of the Shreveport Club; and 12 WHEREAS, she enjoys her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 14 commend and congratulate Rosemary Slattery Davis on the occasion of her one hundredth 15 birthday, does hereby recognize her extraordinary life experiences, and wishes her a full 16 measure of happiness for years to come. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 18 Mrs. Rosemary Slattery Davis.
