SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 71

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Mrs. Rosemary Slattery Davis, widow of former State Senator Jackson
Beauregard Davis, on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday on May 21, 2022.
WHEREAS, it is a distinguished privilege for the Legislature of Louisiana to
congratulate Rosemary Slattery Davis on her extraordinary life; and
WHEREAS, Rosemary Slattery was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and is a St.
Vincent's Academy graduate as well as a Louisiana State University graduate in the College
of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, she and her future husband met as students attending LSU in the late
1930s; Jackson was an LSU Law Center senior and its student body president, and Rosemary
was a freshman pursuing a degree in commerce; and on April 19, 1940, they went to a dance
on their first date; and
WHEREAS, Jackson Davis was stationed at Pearl Harbor during World War II and
as absence made the heart grow fonder, Jackson thought of Rosemary every day, sent her
orchids on special occasions, and enlisted his father, J. O. Davis, to take her to dinner and
always relay his loving sentiments; and
WHEREAS, after a two-year separation, Jackson managed to get Rosemary a civilian
job attached to the Fourteenth Naval District Headquarters in Honolulu and they married on
January 15, 1944, at St. Augustine By-the-Sea Catholic Church on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii;
they lived in Hawaii until 1946, when they returned home to Shreveport; and
WHEREAS, true to her Irish heritage, Rosemary loves to wear the color green,
attends Mass regularly, serves as a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre
of Jerusalem, Southeastern Lieutenancy of the United States, and is a staunch supporter of
the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary has contributed to and been a member of many civic
organizations throughout the years, including the Junior League, the Cotillion Club, the
Shreveport Symphony, and the Salvation Army, and has been a Scout leader, room mother,
and every conceivable volunteer position when her four children were growing up; and
WHEREAS, Rosemary is the oldest member of the Shreveport Club; and
WHEREAS, she enjoys her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Rosemary Slattery Davis on the occasion of her one hundredth
birthday, does hereby recognize her extraordinary life experiences, and wishes her a full
measure of happiness for years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Mrs. Rosemary Slattery Davis.
