SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103
BY SENATOR BERNARD 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Designates the week of May 9-15, 2022, as Police Week
in the state of Louisiana and to commend the service of law enforcement officers.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate the week of May 9-15, 2022, as Police Week in the state of Louisiana and to
3 commend the service of law enforcement officers.
4 WHEREAS, members of law enforcement agencies provide a vital public service and
5 have essential roles in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Louisiana; and
6 WHEREAS, approximately nine hundred thousand law enforcement officers serve
7 their communities across the United States; and
8 WHEREAS, police and peace officers protect citizens twenty-four hours a day and
9 seven days a week; and
10 WHEREAS, nearly sixty thousand assaults against law enforcement officers are
11 reported annually, resulting in approximately sixteen thousand injuries; and
12 WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1791, more than twenty thousand law
13 enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, the names of fallen public servants are engraved on the walls of the
16 National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and
17 WHEREAS, in the United States, six hundred fifteen officers died in the line of duty
18 in 2021; and

1 WHEREAS, those new names of fallen heroes will be added to the National Law
2 Enforcement Officers Memorial this year; and
3 WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers killed in the line of duty will be
4 honored during the thirty-second annual National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund
5 candlelight vigil held on May 13, 2022; and
6 WHEREAS, May 15, 2022, is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor
7 of all fallen officers and their families, and the United States flag is flown at half-staff in
8 many locations throughout our great nation; and
9 WHEREAS, law enforcement officers are guardians of life and property, defenders
10 of individual rights, and warriors against crime, and they merit sincere commendations for
11 their steadfast commitment to securing and preserving the welfare and safety of their fellow
12 citizens.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
14 does hereby designate the week of May 9-15, 2022, as Police Week in Louisiana; does
15 hereby commend the state's law enforcement officers for their noble and exemplary
16 accomplishments; and does hereby express enduring appreciation for the tremendous honor
17 and pride they bring to Louisiana's citizens.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
19 president of the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police.
