SLS 22RS-2641 ORIGINAL 2022 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 108 BY SENATOR BOUDREAUX COMMENDATIONS. Commends and recognizes Dr. Vincent G. June on being selected the sixth chancellor of the South Louisiana Community College. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend and congratulate Dr. Vincent G. June on being selected as the sixth chancellor 3 of South Louisiana Community College. 4 WHEREAS, in December 2020, after having served as interim chancellor for several 5 months and a national search, Dr. Vincent G. June was selected as the sixth chancellor of 6 South Louisiana Community College (SLCC); and 7 WHEREAS, Dr. June provides oversight for all academic and operational functions 8 of SLCC's nine campuses in eight parishes, serving more than 17,000 students annually; and 9 WHEREAS, before joining SLCC, Dr. June served diverse communities in public 10 higher education for over two decades; and 11 WHEREAS, Dr. June earned a degree in business and economics from Florida 12 Agriculture and Mechanical University, and an MBA and PhD in educational leadership 13 from Washington State University; and 14 WHEREAS, South Louisiana was a natural fit for Dr. June who was born in Belle 15 Glade, Florida, an agricultural area of Palm Beach County Florida known for sugarcane 16 farming and fishing; and 17 WHEREAS, since assuming his position at SLCC, Dr. June has secured state and 18 federal grant funds and participated in fundraising and partnership development activities Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 108 SLS 22RS-2641 ORIGINAL 1 to support academic and student development programs, scholarships, and institutional 2 resources totaling over $52.4 million; and 3 WHEREAS, Dr. June possesses extensive accreditation, institutional 4 merger-realignment, and governing board experience, and his research interests include 5 collegewide assessment to support retention, educational leadership in the academic and 6 student affairs profession, and academic success for special populations in higher education; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, June has stated that SLCC provides a rich and deep experience for 9 students and has expressed his commitment to "embrace the access mission of the 10 community college"; and 11 WHEREAS, during his investiture of office ceremony on April 27, 2022, it was 12 announced that a scholarship fund had been established in his honor for first-generation 13 students; and 14 WHEREAS, Dr. June merits a special measure of commendation upon his selection 15 and investiture as chancellor of SLCC. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 17 does hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Vincent G. June on being selected as chancellor 18 of the South Louisiana Community College, recognizes and records for posterity his 19 exemplary leadership, and extends to him best wishes for success in his position. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 21 Dr. Vincent G.
