SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 116
BY SENATOR MIZELL 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  To recognize Wednesday, May 11, 2022, as Alzheimer's
Awareness Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Wednesday, May 11, 2022, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the Louisiana
3 State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, there are currently more than ninety-two thousand people in Louisiana
5 suffering from Alzheimer's or other forms of related dementia; and
6 WHEREAS, Louisiana has the tenth highest death rate for Alzheimer's in the
7 country; and
8 WHEREAS, it is estimated that more than two hundred three thousand family
9 caregivers in Louisiana provide three hundred sixteen million hours of unpaid care for
10 family members with Alzheimer's; and
11 WHEREAS, studies predict that by the year of 2025, one hundred and ten thousand
12 Louisiana residents over the age of sixty-five will be living with Alzheimer's disease.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
14 does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 11, 2022, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the
15 Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby encourage citizens of the great state of Louisiana
16 to raise awareness of this devastating disease.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be submitted to
18 Mary Beth Wilkerson of the Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
