SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 120

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates the week of May 15 through 21, 2022, as
Emergency Medical Services Week.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as Emergency Medical Services
3 Week in Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians in
5 partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians has designated the week
6 of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as Emergency Medical Services Week, nationally, and has
7 selected as a theme for the week, "EMS: Rising to the Challenge"; and
8 WHEREAS, emergency medical services are an essential public service and a vital
9 part of the medical care continuum; and
10 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide
11 lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
12 WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
13 and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
14 WHEREAS, emergency medical services have grown to fill a gap by providing
15 important, out-of-hospital care, including preventive medicine, follow-up care, and access
16 to telemedicine; and
17 WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency medical
18 responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians,

1 paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators,
2 administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained
3 members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and
4 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or
5 volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to
6 enhance and ensure their lifesaving skills; and
7 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of
8 emergency medical services providers by designating the week of May 15 through May 21,
9 2022, as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana, highlighting the theme, "EMS:
10 Rising to the Challenge".
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
12 does hereby designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as Emergency Medical
13 Services Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to observe
14 this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
