SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 120

A RESOLUTION
To designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as Emergency Medical Services
Week in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians in
partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians has designated the week
of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as Emergency Medical Services Week, nationally, and has
selected as a theme for the week, "EMS: Rising to the Challenge"; and
WHEREAS, emergency medical services are an essential public service and a vital
part of the medical care continuum; and
WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide
lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, emergency medical services have grown to fill a gap by providing
important, out-of-hospital care, including preventive medicine, follow-up care, and access
to telemedicine; and
WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency medical
responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians,
paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators,
administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained
members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and
WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or
volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to
enhance and ensure their lifesaving skills; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of
emergency medical services providers by designating the week of May 15 through May 21,
2022, as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana, highlighting the theme, "EMS:
Rising to the Challenge".
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as Emergency Medical
Services Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to observe
this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
