Recognizes Wednesday, May 18, 2022, as Film Day at the state capitol. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To recognize Wednesday, May 18, 2022, as Film Day at the state capitol. 3 WHEREAS, in Louisiana, the motion picture industry creates nearly 10,000 jobs; and 4 WHEREAS, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, businesses with 5 fewer than 500 employees account for 99.5 percent of businesses in Louisiana, and over 6 900,000 Louisianians are employed by small businesses in sectors such as manufacturing, 7 retail, arts, hospitality, and film production; and 8 WHEREAS, thousands of small businesses are behind Louisiana's distinction as a 9 premier location for filming, as each production filmed in the state contracts with many 10 small businesses, from construction to food services to transportation logistics; and 11 WHEREAS, the film industry recently recorded $960 million in direct spending and 12 $326 million in direct earnings to Louisiana residents for 2019 and 2020, with much of that 13 going to local small businesses; and 14 WHEREAS, founded in 2012, and representing a major portion of the thousands of 15 the hard-working citizens and small business owners in Louisiana's film industry, the 16 Louisiana Film and Entertainment Association is an independent, nonprofit organization 17 with the mission to be a collaborative voice for Louisiana's film industry professionals and 18 communicate, educate, and advocate for the long-term sustainability of the film industry in Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 130 SLS 22RS-3211 ORIGINAL 1 this state; and 2 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Film and Entertainment Association works in 3 collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Economic Development to cultivate a 4 diverse and clean industry in Louisiana; and 5 WHEREAS, Louisiana's film industry provides a unique opportunity for a diverse 6 range of small businesses to grow and thrive, providing opportunities for all Louisianians 7 around the state, and helping to strengthen Louisiana's reputation as the top state for business 8 and the best place to live, work, and raise a family. 9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 10 does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 18, 2022, as Louisiana Film Day at the state capitol 11 and does hereby recognize and commend Louisiana's film industry and the many small 12 businesses that support it and extend best wishes for continued success and prosperity. 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 14 Mr. Trey Burvant, president of the Louisiana Film and Entertainment Association.
