2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17 BY SENATOR CATHEY A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate the Los Angeles Rams' offensive tackle, Andrew Whitworth of West Monroe, Louisiana, for his contributions towards the Rams winning Super Bowl LVI. WHEREAS, Andrew Whitworth was born December 12, 1981, in Monroe, Louisiana, and began his successful football career at West Monroe High School, in West Monroe, Louisiana, where he was part of three Louisiana Class 5A State Championships in 1997, 1998, and 2000, when the school was listed by the National High School Football Tony Poll as national champions; and WHEREAS, in his senior year at West Monroe High School, Whitworth was rated by CNNSI.com as the sixth best offensive line prospect in the nation and participated in the first ever U.S. Army All-American Bowl game on December 30, 2000; and WHEREAS, following high school, Whitworth joined the LSU Tiger Football Team and in 2002, he started every game as a redshirt freshman, and was recognized as a first team Freshman All-American by The Sporting News and Football Writers Association; and WHEREAS, in 2003, as a sophomore, Whitworth started in all fourteen games, helping the Tigers to a 13-1 record and the BCS national title with a Sugar Bowl defeat of Oklahoma; and WHEREAS, after his stellar college football career, Whitworth was chosen in the second round of the 2006 NFL draft as the 55th overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals and went on to play eleven years with that team and the last five seasons he played for the Los Angeles Rams; and WHEREAS, since entering the NFL, Whitworth has started in two hundred thirty-five of two hundred thirty-nine games played; caught a one yard touchdown pass, the first of his career, on his birthday in 2010; in 2019, he became only the twelfth starter in Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 17 ENROLLED NFL history to earn victories against all thirty-two teams; and this year, he became just the fourth player to win the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award and the Super Bowl in the same season; and WHEREAS, beyond starring on the football field, in 2021, Whitworth started his "Big Whit Homes for LA Families" venture, which after each home game, he donated twenty thousand dollars to repair homes damaged by Hurricane Ida in partnership with Rebuilding Together; and during one game this season, he hosted more than thirty military veterans for the Merging Vets and Players initiative in a suite; and WHEREAS, on Sunday February 13, 2022, Andrew Whitworth raised the legendary Vince Lombardi trophy in celebration with his teammates after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 to become the undisputed world champions; and WHEREAS, with remarkable determination, character, skill, and talent that began at West Monroe High School, it is appropriate to call Andrew Whitworth a "True Champion". THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the Los Angeles Rams' offensive tackle, Andrew Whitworth of West Monroe, Louisiana, for his contributions toward the Rams winning Super Bowl LVI.
