SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 172

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the South Terrebonne High School baseball team on
winning the 2022 LHSAA Class 4A Baseball State Championship.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the South Terrebonne High School baseball team on winning the 2022
3 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A Baseball State Championship.
4 WHEREAS, the South Terrebonne High School baseball team clinched their first
5 baseball state title capping its Cinderella run through the baseball playoffs with a dramatic
6 7-6 extra-inning win over top-seeded North Vermilion; and
7 WHEREAS, the South Terrebonne High School baseball team was seeded fifteenth
8 at the beginning of the playoffs and is the highest seed to ever win a state title; and
9 WHEREAS, the South Terrebonne baseball team had to overcome many hardships
10 on its journey to the 2022 baseball playoffs; and
11 WHEREAS, in August 2021, the South Terrebonne High School's campus and
12 surrounding homes were severely damaged by Hurricane Ida, displacing many of the team
13 players and placing the baseball team at a significant disadvantage early in the season; and
14 WHEREAS, despite the circumstances, the players bought into a no-excuse mindset
15 and accepted the challenge of practicing and playing the 2022 baseball season entirely on
16 the road; and
17 WHEREAS, the members of the Cinderella team are Christian Arceneaux, Landon
18 Aucoin, Isaiah Black, Brayden Breaux, Brayden Brunet, Brock Cangelosi, Austin

1 Champagne, Brayden Clement, Drake Detillier, Lincoln Dupre, Cole John, Bryce LaJaunie,
2 Henry Lirette, Logan Mallard, Jackson Martin, Peyton Martin, Ethan McCue, Parker Nelton,
3 Drew Pitre, Shea Pitre, and Trent Price; and
4 WHEREAS, the hardworking and dedicated team was lead by Head Coach Mike
5 Barba and assistant coaches Simon Badeaux and Mark Orgeron; and
6 WHEREAS, the team received additional support from statistician Mathew Dupre,
7 trainer Zach Poincon, the "Voice of the Gators" Justin Lirette, Athletic Directors Nick Cenac
8 and Francis Labatt, and Principal Blaise Pelegrina: and
9 WHEREAS, down but never out, the South Terrebonne Gators finished the season
10 with a final season record of twenty-one wins and fifteen losses; it was a season players and
11 coaches will forever remember.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
13 does hereby commend the South Terrebonne High School baseball team on winning the
14 2022 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A Baseball State Championship.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to South
16 Terrebonne High School principal, Blaise Pelegrina.
