SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 220
BY SENATOR SMITH 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends World War II veteran Irving Pierre Sr.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend World War II veteran Irving Pierre Sr. for his lifetime of meritorious service
3 to his country and community. 
4 WHEREAS, as part of the "Greatest Generation", Mr. Pierre honorably served his
5 country during World War II in the European Theater as a member of the United States
6 Army Air Corps for which he received the European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign
7 Medal; and
8 WHEREAS, as part of his service during the war, Mr. Pierre was also awarded two
9 Bronze Stars as a result of heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, and
10 meritorious service in a combat zone; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierre was honorably discharged from his service upon the
12 conclusion of WWII; and
13 WHEREAS, despite his service in defeating Fascism, Mr. Pierre returned home to
14 the segregated South, where he continued a new fight for civil rights; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierre was a founding member of the Friloux-Robinson American
16 Legion Post 509, in Ama, Louisiana; and 
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierre, at age ninety-eight, was recently honored for his service to
18 this country and the American Legion Post 509, along with his dear friend and fellow WWII

1 veteran William Warren Becknel Sr. 
2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
3 does hereby commend World War II veteran Irving Pierre Sr. for his lifetime of meritorious
4 service to his country and community. 
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
6 Irving Pierre Sr.
