Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs. Virgina Valdry. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of 3 Louisiana upon the passing of Mrs. Virginia Valdry. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great regret and profound sorrow that the Senate of the 5 Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the passing of Mrs. Virginia Valdry on April 2, 2022, 6 at the age of eighty-one, at her home in Los Angeles, California; and 7 WHEREAS, Virginia Valdry was born to Joseph Conway Rodney Sr., and Rosalie 8 Gaudin Rodney in the town of Mix, Louisiana, on December 13, 1940; and 9 WHEREAS, Virginia attended Rosenwald High School, where she was an inquisitive 10 and intelligent student who displayed confidence in her cognitive and physical abilities, as 11 was reflected in her academic achievements as well as her interactions with her peers; and 12 WHEREAS, upon graduating high school, she enrolled in Southern University and 13 A&M in Baton Rouge, where she majored in accounting; and 14 WHEREAS, while attending Southern University in 1961, she met Warren Valdry, 15 a high school teacher from Bueche, Louisiana, who would become her husband on 16 September 26, 1962; and 17 WHEREAS, one year later, the couple and their infant son, René Fitzgerald, moved 18 to Los Angeles, where Warren continued to teach high school and they would give birth to Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 45 SLS 22RS-1697 ORIGINAL 1 their daughter, Andrée Blanche; and 2 WHEREAS, Virginia briefly worked as a circuit board technician at Philco-Ford, a 3 position that enabled her to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in early high-speed 4 computers and modern appliances; and 5 WHEREAS, she ultimately decided to focus on raising her children and managing 6 the family's real estate development portfolio, in addition to devoting a considerable amount 7 of time to participating in the parent teacher association at the children's school, volunteering 8 as a classroom assistant, and frequently chaperoning student field trips; and 9 WHEREAS, Virginia was particularly dedicated to assisting women and children in 10 under-served communities and worked with Women Aware and the Beverly Hills West 11 Chapter of The Links Inc. on various initiatives in support of this cause; and 12 WHEREAS, a faithful practitioner of Catholicism, Virginia regularly attended Mass 13 and her intense faith greatly influenced her values and core beliefs; and 14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Virginia Valdry will be remembered for her deep love of God, 15 family, and community, and for the many contributions of her time, talents, and treasures 16 to efforts that uplifted and improved the lives of others; and 17 WHEREAS, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Conway and Rosalie 18 Rodney; and her brothers, Francis Regis Rodney, the Rev. Joseph Rodney, SSJ, and 19 Raymond (Bernadine) Rodney; and 20 WHEREAS, cherishing her memory are her husband, Warren Valdry, PhD; son, 21 René (Janet); daughter, Andrée; brother, Charles (Judith) Rodney Sr.; and sisters, Mary 22 (William) Vercher and Hilda (Ron) Ford; she will also be missed by a host of relatives and 23 friends. 24 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 25 does hereby express its sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of Mrs. Virginia 26 Valdry. 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to her 28 husband, Mr. Warren Valdry.
