Commends the Junior League of Baton Rouge on the occasion of its 90 th anniversary and declares Monday, April, 18, 2022, as Junior League Day at the state capitol. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the Junior League of Baton Rouge on the occasion of its ninetieth anniversary 3 and declare Monday, April 18, 2022, as Junior League Day at the state capitol. 4 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Baton Rouge is an organization of women 5 committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving 6 the community through the action and leadership of its trained volunteers; and 7 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Baton Rouge has a vision to encourage women to 8 be catalysts for lasting community change in the areas of health, education, and cultural 9 development; and 10 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Baton Rouge has an extensive history of service 11 to children and families and has been instrumental in founding and funding many of Baton 12 Rouge's institutions, including the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum, the Baton Rouge 13 Speech and Hearing Foundation, Volunteers in Public Schools, Adopt-A-School, Magnolia 14 Mound Kitchen, East Baton Rouge Parish Library Information Service, Volunteer! Baton 15 Rouge, Playmakers, Peer Helpers, and the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge; and 16 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Baton Rouge has also founded and funded the 17 Parenting Center that is currently known as Family Services of Baton Rouge and Excellence 18 in Teaching from which the Academic Distinction Fund was modeled; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 47 SLS 22RS-1505 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, since its beginnings with 50 charter members in 1932, the Junior 2 League of Baton Rouge has grown to a current membership of 400 active members and 130 3 new members including homemakers, professionals, and volunteer community leaders with 4 a wide variety of skills and talents that each brings to her individual placement, along with 5 the more than 1,100 sustaining members who capitalize on their Junior League experience 6 by continuing to improve the community through service with other volunteer organizations; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Baton Rouge welcomes all women who value the 9 mission of the Junior League of Baton Rouge and are committed to inclusive environments 10 of diverse individuals, organizations, and communities; and 11 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Baton Rouge is a member of the Association of 12 Junior League International, Inc., a network of more than one hundred fifty-five thousand 13 members in two hundred ninety-three communities in four countries: the United States of 14 America, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 16 does hereby commend the Junior League of Baton Rouge on the occasion of its ninetieth 17 anniversary and declare Monday, April 18, 2022, as Junior League Day at the state capitol. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 19 Tristi Charpentier, president of the board of directors of the Junior League of Baton Rouge.
