Commends Eric Andolsek on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Eric Andolsek on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports 3 Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year 5 collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of 6 sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the Hall 7 of Fame; and 8 WHEREAS, the 2022 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes 9 Erik Andolsek; and 10 WHEREAS, born and raised in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Eric Andolsek was an 11 outstanding football lineman at Thibodaux High School showing incredible versatility by 12 playing both on offense and defense; and 13 WHEREAS, as a senior in 1983, he was named an Adidas Prep All-American 14 selection; and 15 WHEREAS, Andolsek chose to stay in his home state to play football at Louisiana 16 State University (LSU); and 17 WHEREAS, the six-foot two-inch, two hundred eighty-six pound freshman started 18 in three games his freshman year and earned a full-time starting spot on the offensive line Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 67 SLS 22RS-1569 ORIGINAL 1 as a sophomore; and 2 WHEREAS, in the 1985 Sugar Bowl against the University of Nebraska, Andolsek 3 again showed his versatility, but this time at the college level playing both offense and 4 defense; and 5 WHEREAS, Andolsek received a multitude of honors and awards at LSU including 6 being named to the Football News Freshman All-American team in 1984, and the 7 All-Louisiana team in 1985, 1986, and 1987; and 8 WHEREAS, he was a member of the All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) team when 9 LSU won the SEC conference championship in 1986, and again in 1987, when LSU finished 10 ranked as one of the top five National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I 11 football teams in the nation; and 12 WHEREAS, in 1986, Sporting News named Andolsek as one of the best offensive 13 guards in the nation and Football News named him as a third-team All-American selection; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, Andolsek was very popular with his college teammates and was named 16 a team captain in 1986 and 1987, and was also named the outstanding senior player in spring 17 practice in 1987; and 18 WHEREAS, Andolsek was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1988, and in his rookie 19 season, he played thirteen games and added a kickoff return for three yards to his career 20 statistics; and 21 WHEREAS, Andolsek started in the position of left guard for all sixty-one games for 22 Detroit over the next three years and helped the team to its first postseason berth in eight 23 years, and aided running back teammate Barry Sanders to a gain of more than one thousand 24 yards in a season; and 25 WHEREAS, in 1991, in his last season with the Detroit Lions, the team posted a 26 record of twelve wins and four losses and won its division title; and 27 WHEREAS, the Detroit Lions have since named its outstanding offensive lineman 28 award after Eric Andolsek and LSU has named its award for the outstanding senior football 29 player in spring practice the Eric Andolsek Award; and 30 WHEREAS, Eric Andolsek was also named to the LSU Modern Day Team of the Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 67 SLS 22RS-1569 ORIGINAL 1 Century in 1993. 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 3 does hereby commend Eric Andolsek on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana 4 Sports Hall of Fame. 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 6 brother, Andy Andolsek.
