Commends Kyle Williams on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Kyle Williams on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports 3 Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year 5 collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of 6 sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the Hall 7 of Fame; and 8 WHEREAS, the 2022 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes 9 Kyle Williams; and 10 WHEREAS, Kyle Williams is a native of Ruston, Louisiana, where he graduated 11 from Ruston High School and was rated as one of the nation's top defensive prospects in 12 2002; and 13 WHEREAS, in his senior year of high school, Williams was named the Louisiana 14 Class 5A Defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) after recording seventy-eight tackles, 15 seventeen for losses and seven sacks, and in that season, he recorded six forced fumbles, four 16 recovered fumbles, and one interception; and 17 WHEREAS, as a former Louisiana State University (LSU) All-American standout, 18 Williams played in forty-six games with thirty-three starts; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 68 SLS 22RS-1579 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Williams was named a second-team Associated Press All-American in 2 his senior year at LSU and helped the LSU Tigers claim the Bowl Championship Series 3 (BCS) title in 2003; and 4 WHEREAS, during his career at LSU, Williams had one hundred forty tackles with 5 twenty-six tackles for loss and he had sixteen and one-half sacks; and 6 WHEREAS, Williams was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 2006 National Football 7 League Draft; and 8 WHEREAS, Williams spent his entire NFL career playing defensive tackle for the 9 Bills and played in one hundred eighty-three games and was a starter in one hundred 10 seventy-eight games; and 11 WHEREAS, Williams' best season with the Bills was in 2013 when he totaled 12 sixty-eight tackles with ten and one-half sacks and twenty-two quarterback hits; and 13 WHEREAS, Kyle Williams, a six-time Pro Bowler, was described as the "heart and 14 soul" of the Bills during his professional football career; and 15 WHEREAS, during the last football game he played as a member of the Buffalo 16 Bills, Williams had three tackles and, in what turned out to be the final play of his career, 17 Williams caught a nine-yard pass; and 18 WHEREAS, at the time of his retirement, Williams had six hundred ten tackles and 19 sacks, making him one of the top Bills' players in franchise history, and his forty-eight and 20 one-half sacks the most among defensive tackles in a Bills' uniform; and 21 WHEREAS, Kyle Williams was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of 22 Fame as a member of the 2021 class. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 24 does hereby commend Kyle Williams on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana 25 Sports Hall of Fame. 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 27 Kyle Williams.
