SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Teddy Allen upon receiving the 2022 Distinguished
Service Award in Sports Journalism and on being inducted into the 2022 class of the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Teddy Allen upon receiving the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in Sports
3 Journalism and on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall
4 of Fame.
5 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
6 collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
7 sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the Hall
8 of Fame; and
9 WHEREAS, the Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious honor offered
10 to sports media in the state and recipients are carefully chosen after an extensive deliberation
11 by a forty-member expert panel based on their professional accomplishments in local, state,
12 regional, and national arenas; and
13 WHEREAS, Teddy Allen, an acclaimed north Louisiana writer, has been selected
14 for the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism from the Louisiana Sports
15 Writers Association and a member of the 2022 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction
16 Class; and
17 WHEREAS, Allen graduated from Louisiana Tech University having earned a
18 bachelors degree in 1982 and a masters degree in 1984; and

1 WHEREAS, Teddy Allen has been recognized as north Louisiana's preeminent
2 feature columnist for over thirty years; and
3 WHEREAS, since the mid-1980s, Allen has accumulated numerous awards from the
4 Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) and has been nationally recognized for his
5 work for the Shreveport Journal, The Times in Shreveport, and The Times-Picayune in New
6 Orleans; and
7 WHEREAS, Allen has won the Associated Press Sports Editors national feature
8 writing award multiple times, the LSWA Story of the Year, the LSWA Columnist of the
9 Year, and the LSWA Sportswriter of the Year; and
10 WHEREAS, Allen has won both the Ernie Pyle Award as the top columnist in
11 Mississippi and Louisiana, and Columnist of the Year in the Louisiana National Press; and
12 WHEREAS, Allen's work has been featured in the Poynter Institute's annual "Best
13 Newspaper Writing"; and
14 WHEREAS, Allen is the author of three books and is the co-founder of designated
15 writers dot com, an online publication including columns, features, and videos of his work;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, in 2008, Allen returned to his alma mater as a writer in the university's
18 communication department; doing extensive radio broadcasting over the past ten years for
19 Tech sports; and serving as a master of ceremonies at many university events; and
20 WHEREAS, Teddy Allen has served as the master of ceremonies for the Louisiana
21 Sports Hall of Fame, year after year, for the better part of the last two decades.
22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
23 does hereby commend Teddy Allen for receiving the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in
24 Sports Journalism and on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of
25 Fame.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
27 Teddy Allen.
