COMMENDATIONS. Commends Madison Elizabeth Smith upon her reign as Queen of the
2022 Mystick Krewe of Louisianans Washington Mardi Gras Ball.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Miss Madison Elizabeth Smith upon her reign as Queen of the 2022 Mystick
3 Krewe of Louisianans Washington Mardi Gras Ball.
4 WHEREAS, the Mystick Krewe of Louisianans Washington Mardi Gras Ball has its
5 origins among displaced Louisianians, known as the Louisiana State Society, living in our
6 nation's capital who wanted to bring the celebration to their new home in the late 1930s; and
7 WHEREAS, over the years, the Mystick Krewe of Louisianans has welcomed
8 President Richard Nixon, Vice President Gerald Ford, Vice President Al Gore, and numerous
9 cabinet secretaries and ambassadors to its celebrations; and
10 WHEREAS, Society president C.J. Bourg and Lt. Col. Leonce Legendre of New
11 Orleans were the inspiration for the first Mardi Gras ball held in 1944, for these exiled
12 Louisianians living in Washington D.C.; and
13 WHEREAS, the first Washington Mardi Gras Ball queen was Mollie Gaumer, a
14 member of United States Senator John Overton's staff; and
15 WHEREAS, since 1944, the Mystick Krewe of Louisianans has selected a queen to
16 reign over the krewe's festivities; and
17 WHEREAS, Miss Madison Elizabeth Smith was selected as queen by the krewe to
18 reign over the festivities in 2022; and

1 WHEREAS, Madison is the daughter of Glen and Marilyn Smith of LaPlace,
2 Louisiana; and
3 WHEREAS, she is a 2018 graduate of Mt. Carmel Academy in new Orleans; and
4 WHEREAS, Madison is currently a senior at Louisiana State University in Baton
5 Rouge where she is majoring in political science with a concentration in American
6 constitutional law; and
7 WHEREAS, while at Mt. Carmel, Madison was active in assisting with youth
8 summer camps held at the school for younger girls; and
9 WHEREAS, she has also been very active in multiple philanthropies, most notably,
10 The G. Smith Prom of Champions, providing a prom experience for terminally ill children;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, Madison also volunteered her time for the Children's Christmas
13 Celebration, which provides Christmas gifts to over three hundred children in the River
14 Parish region annually; and
15 WHEREAS, Madison has worked as a Senate aide in the Louisiana Legislature for
16 the last two sessions; and
17 WHEREAS, Miss Madison Elizabeth Smith merits sincere congratulations for being
18 selected to reign as Queen of the 2022 Mystic Krewe of Louisianans Washington Mardi Gras
19 Ball.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
21 does hereby commend and congratulate Miss Madison Elizabeth Smith upon her reign as
22 Queen of the 2022 Mystick Krewe of Louisianans Washington Mardi Gras Ball.
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
24 Miss Madison Elizabeth Smith.
