SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 73
BY SENATORS FOIL AND FIELDS 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Designates Wednesday, April 20, 2022, as LSU Day at
the legislature.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Wednesday, April 20, 2022, as LSU Day at the legislature and commend
3 Louisiana State University on its many contributions and leadership in our state and
4 nation.
5 WHEREAS, Louisiana State University (LSU), through its campuses and extension
6 offices, is the most comprehensive education system in the state, with a public mission
7 focused on education, research, and outreach; and
8 WHEREAS, there are more than 55,000 students enrolled across all levels, from
9 certificates to the doctoral level; and
10 WHEREAS, LSU offers a comprehensive educational curriculum in a broad range
11 of fields including agriculture, humanities, physical sciences, music, medicine, nursing,
12 allied health, engineering, veterinary medicine, social sciences, education, dentistry, law,
13 business administration, and public administration; and
14 WHEREAS, LSU, with a research portfolio valued at $1.1 billion, collaborates with
15 more than 100 universities and 450 industry partners around the world; and LSU researchers
16 across Louisiana are working on developing a wide range of innovations to improve quality
17 of life for Louisiana and for citizens nationwide by studying issues like disease management,
18 advanced medical treatments, obesity, coastal protection, hurricane preparedness, energy,

1 natural resource management, and agriculture; and
2 WHEREAS, LSU possesses more than half of the certified Centers of Excellence in
3 our state; and
4 WHEREAS, LSU employs an excellent, world-renowned teacher-scholars faculty
5 who are nationally competitive in research and creative activities and outlets, and who
6 contribute greatly to a world-class knowledge base that is transferable to educational,
7 professional, cultural, and economic enterprises, and who use their extensive talent and
8 resources to solve economic, environmental, and social challenges; and
9 WHEREAS, Forbes magazine ranks LSU among the Top 20 national universities
10 that dominate in both academics and athletics; and
11 WHEREAS, the generosity of the citizens of Louisiana and the nation have
12 contributed to the support of Louisiana State University, and the institution has in turn
13 provided quality education, basic and applied research, new and state of the art discoveries
14 in all fields, numerous hours of volunteerism, and valuable public service in the community;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, LSU is Louisiana's most important economic asset, contributing over
17 $5.1 billion in total Louisiana sales, providing an estimated 41,000 jobs to communities, and
18 over $1.9 billion in new statewide earnings; demonstrating that for every dollar provided by
19 the state, LSU provides a $13.25 return of economic activity; and
20 WHEREAS, LSU remains one of the greatest investments for Louisiana, one focused
21 only on improving the quality of life for its citizens.
22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
23 does hereby designate April 20, 2022, as LSU Day at the legislature, commends Louisiana
24 State University on its contributions and leadership in our state and nation, and wishes it well
25 in all its endeavors.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
27 LSU President William F. Tate IV.
