2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 73 BY SENATORS FOIL, ABRAHAM, ALLAIN, BARROW, BERNARD, BOUDREAUX, BOUIE, CARTER, CATHEY, CONNICK, CORTEZ, FESI, FIELDS, HARRIS, HENRY, HEWITT, JACKSON, FRED MILLS, ROBERT MILLS, MIZELL, PEACOCK, POPE, PRICE, REESE, SMITH, STINE, TALBOT, TARVER, WARD, WHITE AND WOMACK A RESOLUTION To designate Wednesday, April 20, 2022, as LSU Day at the legislature and commend Louisiana State University on its many contributions and leadership in our state and nation. WHEREAS, Louisiana State University (LSU), through its campuses and extension offices, is the most comprehensive education system in the state, with a public mission focused on education, research, and outreach; and WHEREAS, there are more than 55,000 students enrolled across all levels, from certificates to the doctoral level; and WHEREAS, LSU offers a comprehensive educational curriculum in a broad range of fields including agriculture, humanities, physical sciences, music, medicine, nursing, allied health, engineering, veterinary medicine, social sciences, education, dentistry, law, business administration, and public administration; and WHEREAS, LSU, with a research portfolio valued at $1.1 billion, collaborates with more than 100 universities and 450 industry partners around the world; and LSU researchers across Louisiana are working on developing a wide range of innovations to improve quality of life for Louisiana and for citizens nationwide by studying issues like disease management, advanced medical treatments, obesity, coastal protection, hurricane preparedness, energy, natural resource management, and agriculture; and WHEREAS, LSU possesses more than half of the certified Centers of Excellence in our state; and WHEREAS, LSU employs an excellent, world-renowned teacher-scholars faculty who are nationally competitive in research and creative activities and outlets, and who contribute greatly to a world-class knowledge base that is transferable to educational, Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 73 ENROLLED professional, cultural, and economic enterprises, and who use their extensive talent and resources to solve economic, environmental, and social challenges; and WHEREAS, Forbes magazine ranks LSU among the Top 20 national universities that dominate in both academics and athletics; and WHEREAS, the generosity of the citizens of Louisiana and the nation have contributed to the support of Louisiana State University, and the institution has in turn provided quality education, basic and applied research, new and state of the art discoveries in all fields, numerous hours of volunteerism, and valuable public service in the community; and WHEREAS, LSU is Louisiana's most important economic asset, contributing over $5.1 billion in total Louisiana sales, providing an estimated 41,000 jobs to communities, and over $1.9 billion in new statewide earnings; demonstrating that for every dollar provided by the state, LSU provides a $13.25 return of economic activity; and WHEREAS, LSU remains one of the greatest investments for Louisiana, one focused only on improving the quality of life for its citizens. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate April 20, 2022, as LSU Day at the legislature, commends Louisiana State University on its contributions and leadership in our state and nation, and wishes it well in all its endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to LSU President William F. Tate IV. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 2 of 2
