SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 85
BY SENATOR PRICE 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Reverend Ulysse Stephens upon his retirement from
pastoral ministry after forty-seven years of faithful service.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Reverend Ulysse Stephens of Hartzell United Methodist Church in Rosedale,
3 Louisiana, upon his retirement after forty-seven years of faithful service and
4 inspiring leadership.
5 WHEREAS, he was born on December 30, 1932, to the union of the late Reverend
6 Morris Stephens Sr. and Mrs. Sophie Marcell Stephens; and
7 WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and served
8 in active reserve for six years; and
9 WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens is married to Annie M. Phillips and is currently
10 celebrating sixty-five years of marriage and praying for more; and
11 WHEREAS, to their joyful union was born three children: Sharon Kaye Stephens
12 who has transcended this earthly life, Rev. Kevin Ulysse Stephens Sr., MD., J.D., and Karla
13 S. Lewis; and
14 WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens began his pastoral ministry as a pastor and served in the
15 following churches: Saint Paul Baptist Church in Gonzales, Wesley and Trinity United
16 Methodist Churches in New Orleans, Scott United Methodist Church in Port Allen, and
17 Shiloh United Methodist Church in Maringouin; and
18 WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens is retiring from Hartzell United Methodist in Rosedale

1 after twenty-four years of pastoral service there; and
2 WHEREAS, this "Man of God" has performed pastoral services for a total of
3 forty-seven years in various churches throughout Louisiana; and
4 WHEREAS, Reverend Ulysse Stephens is a dedicated and loving husband, father,
5 and friend, a pastor in the true sense of the word, and has been totally involved in his
6 community, state, and country on behalf of the betterment of his fellow man; and
7 WHEREAS, his retirement will leave a lasting impact upon his flock and anyone
8 who was blessed to hear him share "the Gospel".
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
10 does, upon his retirement, hereby recognize and appreciate Reverend Ulysse Stephens,
11 pastor of Hartzell United Methodist Church in Rosedale, Louisiana, for his dedication,
12 commitment, and inspiring leadership which are symbolic of his God-given pastoral ministry
13 which he used to serve his flock, community, and the citizens of Louisiana.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Rev.
15 Ulysse Stephens.
