2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 85 BY SENATOR PRICE A RESOLUTION To commend Reverend Ulysse Stephens of Hartzell United Methodist Church in Rosedale, Louisiana, upon his retirement after forty-seven years of faithful service and inspiring leadership. WHEREAS, he was born on December 30, 1932, to the union of the late Reverend Morris Stephens Sr. and Mrs. Sophie Marcell Stephens; and WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and served in active reserve for six years; and WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens is married to Annie M. Phillips and is currently celebrating sixty-five years of marriage and praying for more; and WHEREAS, to their joyful union was born three children: Sharon Kaye Stephens who has transcended this earthly life, Rev. Kevin Ulysse Stephens Sr., MD, JD, and Karla S. Lewis; and WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens began his pastoral ministry as a pastor and served in the following churches: Saint Paul Baptist Church in Gonzales, Wesley and Trinity United Methodist Churches in New Orleans, Scott United Methodist Church in Port Allen, and Shiloh United Methodist Church in Maringouin; and WHEREAS, Rev. Stephens is retiring from Hartzell United Methodist in Rosedale after twenty-four years of pastoral service there; and WHEREAS, this "Man of God" has performed pastoral services for a total of forty-seven years in various churches throughout Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Reverend Ulysse Stephens is a dedicated and loving husband, father, and friend, a pastor in the true sense of the word, and has been totally involved in his community, state, and country on behalf of the betterment of his fellow man; and WHEREAS, his retirement will leave a lasting impact upon his flock and anyone who was blessed to hear him share "the Gospel". Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 85 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does, upon his retirement, hereby recognize and appreciate Reverend Ulysse Stephens, pastor of Hartzell United Methodist Church in Rosedale, Louisiana, for his dedication, commitment, and inspiring leadership which are symbolic of his God-given pastoral ministry which he used to serve his flock, community, and the citizens of Louisiana.
