ENROLLED ACT No. 140 2023 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 114 BY REPRESENTATIVE ORGERON 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 56:1684(D)(1), relative to state parks; to provide an exception 3 to state park size requirements; and to provide for related matters. 4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 5 Section 1. R.S. 56:1684(D)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 ยง1684. Categories of classification 7 Each office of state parks holding will be identified and operated according 8 to the basic purpose for which it is established and will be selected, operated, and 9 identified according to the following classification categories and the criteria thereof: 10 * * * 11 D. "State parks" are natural areas which, when evaluated on a statewide 12 basis, possess outstanding potential for recreation utilization. The natural area must 13 possess outstanding scenic and natural qualities to provide a recreation opportunity 14 of high quality in a natural setting. 15 The criteria for the selection of areas to be designated as state parks shall be: 16 (1) Size: A state park shall be of sufficient size to ensure efficient operation 17 and maintenance of its recreation facilities and have sufficient buffer to preserve the 18 natural integrity of the area. 19 All state parks, except those currently within the system, and those in Caddo 20 and Bossier Parishes, and those within Township 23 South - Range 22 East and 21 Township 23 South - Range 23 East, Lafourche Parish, must adhere to an absolute Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions.
