CLERKS OF COURT: Provides relative to group insurance expenses of the clerk of court
of Evangeline Parish

2To enact R.S. 13:783(F)(12), relative to group insurance expenses of the office of the clerk
3 of court; to provide for the payment of group insurance premiums for certain retirees
4 of the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 13:783(F)(12) is hereby enacted to read as follows:

11 (12) The clerk of court of Evangeline Parish shall pay from the clerk's salary
12 fund one hundred percent of the premium costs of the group life and accidental death
13 and dismemberment, group health, accident, dental, hospital, surgical, or other
14 medical expense insurance for any clerk or employee who was a covered employee,
15 who elects to continue coverage, and who retires from the office of the Evangeline
16 Parish Clerk of Court and begins receiving monthly benefits from the Louisiana
17 Clerks' of Court Retirement and Relief Fund immediately upon retirement from
18 active employment with at least twenty years of full-time service with the office of
19 the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court, and who is at least fifty-five years of age. The

1 provisions of this Paragraph shall not apply to any other insurance, such as
2 supplemental insurance, that an employee may elect to purchase.

Abstract: Requires the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court to pay for specified group
insurance premiums for certain retirees.
Present law authorizes the clerk of any district court to contract for group insurance for the
clerk of court, employees, and dependants of the clerk or the clerk's employees.
Present law provides that the clerk or any covered clerk's employee who retires under the
clerk of court retirement program may elect to continue insurance coverage under the
program if employed for at least 12 years prior to retirement. The cost may be paid in the
same manner as if he were still employed by the clerk of court.
Present law provides that the covered employee begins receiving retirement benefits
immediately upon retirement from active employment.
Proposed law retains present law and requires the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court to pay
the full amount of all insurance premiums for all retirees who have worked with the office
of the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court for at least 20 years and are at least 55 years of age.
