HB 268 Original	2023 Regular Session	Farnum
Abstract: Provides relative to required annual salary increases for members of the Sulphur fire
department.
Present law provides relative to salaries of members of fire departments. Requires payment of a
minimum monthly salary based on the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. Further requires an annual
2% increase in salary for fire department members with at least three but not more than 20 years of
service. Requires use of base pay and previous required increases in computing increases.
Present law, applicable to members of the police department in Sulphur, requires a similar annual
salary increase except that the requirement also applies to members with more than 20 years of
experience, and state supplemental pay is also included in computing increases.
Proposed law provides that the required salary increases for members of the Sulphur fire department
are the same as those required by present law for members of the Sulphur police department.
Specifically, the required 2% annual increase applies to any member with at least three years of
service, and base pay, previous required increases, and state supplemental pay shall be used in
computing the increases.
