SEX OFFENSE/REGISTRY: Adds certain crimes against juveniles that require sex
offender registration
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 15:541(12)(e) and to enact R.S. 15:541(12)(f), relative to
3 offenses requiring registration as a sex offender; to provide relative to criminal
4 offenses against a minor; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 15:541(12)(e) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S.
715:541(12)(f) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง541. Definitions
9 For the purposes of this Chapter, the definitions of terms in this Section shall
10 apply:

12 (12) "Criminal offense against a victim who is a minor" for the purposes of
13 this Chapter means conviction for the perpetration or attempted perpetration of or
14 conspiracy to commit any of the following offenses:

16 (e) A violation of R.S. 14:93 or 93.2.3 when the victim is under eighteen
17 years of age.
18 (f) Any conviction for an offense under the laws of another state, or military,
19 territorial, foreign, tribal, or federal law which is equivalent to the offenses listed in
20 Subparagraphs (a) through (d) (e) of this Paragraph.

Abstract: Provides for additional offenses that require registration as a sex offender.
Present law (R.S. 15:541) provides for definitions of certain terms applicable to present law
(R.S. 15:541 through 553).
Proposed law changes the definition of "criminal offense against a victim who is a minor"
to include the present law offenses of cruelty to juveniles (R.S. 14:93) and second degree
cruelty to juveniles (RS. 14:93.2.3).
