Existing law requires the State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to
establish qualifications and requirements for teacher education programs. Specifies certain
elements to be included in such programs.
New law requires that teacher education programs include instruction on foundational
numeracy skills.
New law requires BESE to revise teacher certification and teacher education program
requirements to align with new law by Dec. 31, 2023.
Effective August 1, 2023.
