R.S. 13:5706(I) and 5715(A)(3) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 §5706. Fees for coroner's services 9 * * * 10 I. For purposes of this Section, "municipality" shall not include municipal 11 corporations having one thousand or fewer inhabitants. 12 * * * 13 §5715. [R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 329 Original 2023 Regular Session Thompson Abstract: Defines "municipality" for the purposes of payment for coroner's services and provides for the payment of expenses incurred in the disposition of paupers arranged by the coroners. Present law provides that certain fees for coroner's services shall be paid by the governing authority of the parish or municipality. Proposed law retains present law and adds a definition for municipality, which excludes present law from applying to municipal corporations of 1,000 or fewer inhabitants. Present law provides that disposition expenses for paupers shall be paid by the parish or municipality of the decedent's domicile if located in La., or if the decedent's domicile is not in La., the parish or municipality where the death occurred. Proposed law retains present law and requires that disposition expenses for paupers be paid by the parish if the decedent's domicile or where the death occurred is a municipal corporation having one thousand or fewer inhabitants.
