CONTRACTORS:  Provides relative to licensed home contractors
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 37:1477(D), relative to home inspection licensure; to provide for
3 contractors obtaining a home inspector license; to provide for training hours needed
4 to obtain a home inspection license; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 37:1477(D) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง1477.  Qualifications for licensure; application; fees

9	D.  Beginning July 1, 2001, any Any person filing an initial application for
10 licensure shall present evidence to the board that he has satisfactorily completed at
11 least one hundred twenty hours of instruction.  Those who are licensed as home
12 contractors shall complete at least ninety hours of instruction.  At least thirty, but not
13 more than forty, of the required hours shall be obtained in course work containing
14 actual practical home inspections.  Licensed home contractors are not required to
15 participate in thirty hours of practical home inspections.  The remainder of the
16 instruction must shall be classroom hours in home inspection classwork approved by
17 the board.  Satisfactory completion includes attendance of specified hours and
18 passage of an examination on course contents.

Abstract:  Establishes the amount of training hours needed to obtain a home inspector
license.
Present law requires that all those obtaining a home inspector license shall complete 120
hours of instruction and at least 30 hours, and not more than 40 hours, of practical home
inspections.
Proposed law provides that those who are already licensed as home contractors shall
complete 90 hours of instruction and are not required to complete practical home inspections
in order to obtain a home inspector license.
