RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 275 (HB 358) 2023 Regular Session LaCombe Existing law, relative to waterworks districts, provides generally that the districts are governed by a board of five members known as waterworks commissioners. Existing law provides that if one municipality, or any part of a municipality, is included in the district, the board of commissioners shall have eight members, one of the additional members to be appointed by the police jury and the remaining two to be appointed by the governing authority of the municipality. Provides that if two municipalities, or parts of municipalities, are included, each municipal governing authority shall be entitled to appoint one member and the police jury shall be entitled to appoint two additional members. If more than two municipalities are included, the two municipalities having the largest population within the district appoint the two members representing the municipalities and the police jury appoints two additional members. Existing law includes special provisions for the membership of various waterworks districts. New law provides a special provision for the membership of the governing board of Waterworks District No. 1 of Pointe Coupee Parish. Authorizes the parish governing authority to provide, by ordinance, for the membership of the board. Provides that members shall be appointed by and shall serve at the pleasure of the parish governing authority. Effective upon signature of governor (June 9, 2023).
